Embroider has been one of the most prestigious arts in China, surpassing the fame even of painting during some periods. Suzhou Embroidery is one of the oldest embroidery techniques in the world, with origins stretching back more than 2, 000 years. It is a national treasure of China, combines the ancient industries of silk growing and silk making with the artistic tradition of inner chambers embroidery, in which women learned to create needle work based on paintings.
