read moreThe more you know about your pregnancy and your options, the more you are likely to feel in control. The information given here is based on The Pregnancy Book, which your midwife should give you at your first appointment. Here's a checklist of the vaccines that are routinely offered to everyone in the UK for free on the NHS, and the age at which you should ideally have them. Having an ill child can be a very scary experience for parents. If you understand more about the illness it can help you to feel more in control.

You can request a printout of your vaccination history from reception (please allow 48 hours before collecting). You will be informed of any vaccinations you require including those available on the NHS. Sometimes the charge is made to cover some of the cost of treatment, in other cases, it is because the service is not covered by the NHS, for example, providing copies of health records or producing medical reports for insurance companies. GPs are not employed by the NHS. They are self-employed and they have to cover their costs - staff, buildings, heating, lighting etc. in the same way as any small business.

You can register the death if you are a relative, a witness to the death, a hospital administrator or the person making the arrangements with the funeral directors. You can use the 'Register a Death' page on the gov.uk website that will guide you through the process. This will also explain the registration process for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some local councils run their own funeral services, for example for non-religious burials.

If it isn't and you need and NHS referral instead, you must inform the practice immediately. We do not create private and NHS referrals simultaneously. YOU must find out from your insurers if the service you need is provided locally and where that is (it is not always at The Nuffield, Plymouth). In some specialist clinical areas, the nearest private consultant may be Exeter, Bristol or even London.
