St Nicholas Health Centre

The practice was established in 1969 to serve this area of the enlarging new town. Dr Rolfe was the 1st doctor to be appointed to the practice and, as it expanded, Dr Leslie Southgate joined the partnership. The practice was housed in temporary premises, in an ordinary terraced house at 2 Durham Road and the health visitors were housed next door at 4 Durham Road. Dr Rolfe and Dr Southgate left the practice in 1971. At that time Dr George took over the practice and was joined soon after by Dr Shareef and Dr Zaidi.
