Tooth Whitening
read moreTooth whitening can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. There are a number of reasons why you might get your teeth whitened. Everyone is different; and just as our hair and skin colour vary, so do our teeth. Very few people have brilliant-white teeth, and our teeth can also become more discoloured as we get older. Your teeth can also be stained on the surface through food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine and blackcurrant.
Dental Implants
read morePlacing the implant is quick and pain free, as is generally carried out in local anaesthetic. The implant will be placed below the gum line in the jaw bone, so it will not be visible to human eye. You will not feel pain during the surgery but you may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery. This is normal due the healing process. If you are missing teeth and you are advised to cut into your healthy natural teeth to support a bridge, please ask your dentist first. This is why dental implants are recommended instead of destroying precious tooth structure.
Fillings
read moreFillings are used to repair a cavity in your tooth caused by decay. The most common type of filling is dental amalgam, made from a mixture of mercury and different metals. Dental amalgam fillings are often used on your back teeth as they are hard-wearing. Your dentist will offer you the type of filling most appropriate for your clinical (medical) needs. This may include a tooth-coloured (white) filling. For example, if you need a filling for one of your front teeth, your dentist may suggest a tooth-coloured filling, but the use of tooth coloured fillings on back teeth is considered purely cosmetic.
Crowns
read moreA crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. A crown is sometimes known as a 'cap'. Crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. Crowns can be made of a variety of different materials and new materials are continually being introduced. Some of the most popular options are listed below. Once the tooth is shaped, the dentist will take an impression (mould) of the prepared tooth, one of the opposite jaw and possibly another to mark the way you bite together.
Treatments
read moreWhat are Composite veneers? Composite veneers are carried out using composite resin, which is a tooth-coloured filling material. Composite comes in a number of shades and therefore can be used to make teeth look whiter. The composite is artistically built directly onto the tooth surface then shaped and polished to improve the shape and/or. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures, such as Botox and fillers, can be used to alter your appearance without the need for surgery. They are a popular alternative to surgical procedures.
Bridges
read moreYour appearance is one reason. Another is that the gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain is put on the teeth at either side. A gap can also mean your "bite" is affected, because the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to jaw joint problems. The first is with a removable false tooth or teeth, a partial denture. The second way is with a fixed bridge. A bridge is usually used where the gap borders to solid teeth, which have already crowns or large fillings.
Porcelein Veneers
read moreVeneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten front teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) is not suitable or desirable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
