Chesterfield Hockey Club
Sporting Club in Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Our Club relied heavily on the local schools to supply its new members until the early 1980s. It became clear that school sport was in the decline, especially for minority sports such as Hockey. In an effort to address the perceived problem, two members of the Club decided to run what was then a new Mini-Hockey scheme primarily for youngsters from the age of 7, but willing to take on any child physically able to held a stick and enjoy the sport.

Coaching for Junior Hockey
read moreAndrew Phillips is a member of a select group of around 100 hockey coaches in the United Kingdom who have passed England Hockey Board's Goalkeeping Bronze Award Certification. This is the only accredited England Hockey Board goalkeeper's coaching qualification. He and Shane Hale, a former 1st XI goalkeeper help in our junior section and may be able to run Goalkeeping courses when there is sufficient interest. You may be eligible to attend one or more JDCs - please see JDC leaflet and parental letter.
Junior Hockey
read moreChesterfield Hockey Club organises a tournament for teams of boys from local Primary Schools after school most years. The competition comprised two leagues where each team played each other team, one of 4 teams - Brampton A, Spire, William Rhodes and Brockwell, the other of the remaining 3 - Brampton B, Holymoorside and St. Mary's. On a rather wet and cool winter's evening, some excellent hockey was played by the youngsters, despite the weather. The Spectators braved the wet conditions to offer good support to their teams.

History of Chesterfield Hockey
read moreThe club was originally founded in 1899. It has reformed twice; after the first World War and again in 1947 after the Second World War. The club has grown steadily from the 1960's, initially from supply from local secondary schools, but since the early 1980's from our own Mini-hockey Scheme. Our Club is in partnership with St. Mary's RC High School and has a "state-of-the-art" sand filled artificial turf pitch, originally laid in 2001/2. The pitch is available for hire; contact John Nash (Tel: 07736792222) for details.
