Fred began out as a Amateur Boxing coach back in 1972 at the Hemsworth Amateur Boxing club then run by Pete Cullen. He moved on after a 6 year period at Hemsworth to form his own club the Grimethorpe and Cudworth Boxing Club. Fred and his wife Barbara formed the club in 1978 and run the club as Grimethorpe and Cudworth ABA until 1996, they then changed the name to Grimethorpe and Cudworth Hard and Fast ABC. The club is located in Cudworth on the outskirts of Barnsley.
