About Us
read moreStarted in 2005, Active Physiotherapy has been helping people from across Bury and Bolton recover from and prevent injury for many years. We make your goals our goals and pride ourselves in being the friendliest, most knowledgeable and most welcoming physiotherapy clinics in the area. We know the importance of treating all our patients as individuals. Just because your best friend's brother had a similar pain or problem to yours does not mean that the cause of or treatment for your problem will be the same especially as you will likely have different goals and priorities.
Meet The Team
read moreRichard qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Bradford in 2006. He then moved back home to Bury to work in a local physiotherapy practice part-time whilst continuing to study Masters level modules in chronic pain and therapeutic exercise at a university. He then began working for Bury Football Club where he worked with the first team, youth team and academy from 2007-2015 when his work with Active Physiotherapy took over all his time. Richard has been the lead physiotherapist at both our Whitefield ond Bolton since 2008 and has a wealth of experience treated all ages for a wide variety of conditions.
Sports Massage Service
read moreThis is because sports massage can help to improve performance, prevent injury, reduce pain, shorten recovery time and prepare the body for action. It is a combination of massage techniques designed to get into the deeper layers of your muscle tissue that traditional massages don't reach to give you the maximum benefit. All our manual therapies are carried out by health professions council (HPC) registered and chartered physiotherapists with additional post-graduate training in advanced soft tissue massage.
Sports Injuries
read moreSports injuries are very loosely defined as injuries caused whilst participating in or training for a particular sport. That's where our sports injuries clinic comes in. They can be split into 2 categories: contact and non-contact. The majority of these injuries can occur without any sporting context at all but they are more common in a sporting context. The main thing that makes sports injuries different is the high level of activity that the injured party wants to return to. This is where specialist sports physiotherapists at Active Physiotherapy's sports injury clinic set ourselves apart from the rest.

Neck Pain
read moreApart from back pain, neck pain and shoulder complaints are the most common complaints we see in the clinic. Many times patients enter the clinic complaining of neck pains as well as the shoulder. Often dysfunction and pain in one side of the neck can cause problems for the shoulder on the same side and vice versa. Below you will find some information on some common neck and shoulder problems that we can help with. This is defined as a neck injury caused by a sudden acceleration then deceleration of the head on the neck in a forward, backwards or sideways direction.
Back Pain Treatment Service
read moreBack pain is a common problem that affects up to 80% of us at some point during our lifetime. So, the chances are that you will suffer with it at some point. A big cause of low back pain is often our posture either when standing, sitting or performing an activity incorrectly. People in job roles that involve prolonged sitting or standing in one position, awkward postures, repetitive activities or heavy lifting are particularly at risk. Low back pain is the most common form of back pain and usually manifests itself as a nagging ache or stiffness initially.
Acupuncture Treatment Service
read moreAcupuncture is available as a treatment at both our Bolton and Whitefield clinics administered by our Lead Physiotherapist Richard Hulbert. Acupuncture is one of the treatment options that may be recommended by your physiotherapist as part of an integrated approach to the management of your pain and/or inflammation. Our physiotherapists base all their treatments on scientific research and clinical evidence. It can reduce pain by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals.
