Medical Center in South Shields, Tyne and Wear
Medical Center in South Shields, Tyne and Wear We provide up-to-date facilities for doctors, team and patients and we hope that the atmosphere puts you at ease when you visit the surgery. At times there may be medical students here being taught by the doctors and nurses, but you can ask to opt out of seeing them if you don't want them involved. The practice is a training practice which means that we currently have a GP registrar working with us for six months at a time. The GP registrar is a qualified doctor who is working in general practice to earn experience.

About Us
read moreThe more you know about your pregnancy and your options, the more you are likely to feel in control. The information given here is based on The Pregnancy Book, which your midwife should give you at your first appointment. Here's a checklist of the vaccines that are routinely offered to everyone in the UK for free on the NHS, and the age at which you should ideally have them. Having an ill child can be a very scary experience for parents. If you understand more about the illness it can help you to feel more in control.

Alongside general nursing services such as ear syringing, vaccinations and wound dressings, they offer a range of more specialised clinic appointments including asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension and smears. The practice runs a full travel clinic service where patients can be given travel advice, vaccinations (there is a charge for some) and any travel certificates that may be required.

When booking appointments online, please remember that antenatal, postnatal and child injections are double appointments. If you have a problem, which you feel can be resolved in a telephone consultation with a doctor; the receptionist will give you a time to ring back. Please ring in the morning for a telephone consultation for that day. In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor.

Reception and administration staff require access to your medical records in order to do their jobs. These members of staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the medical staff. Information about the General Practioners and the practice required for disclosure under this act can be made available to the public. All requests for such information should be made to the practice manager. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Access to Health Records Act, patients may request to see their medical records.

You can register the death if you are a relative, a witness to the death, a hospital administrator or the person making the arrangements with the funeral directors. You can use the 'Register a Death' page on the gov.uk website that will guide you through the process. This will also explain the registration process for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some local councils run their own funeral services, for example for non-religious burials.
Patient Participation Group
read moreWe would like to know how we can improve our service to you and how you perceive our surgery and staff. To help us with this, we are setting up a virtual patient representation group so that you can have your say. We will ask the members of this representative group some questions from time to time, such as what you think about our opening times or the quality of the care or service you received. We will contact you via email and keep our surveys succinct so it shouldn't take too much of your time.

It is an electronic record which contains information about the medicines you take, allergies you suffer from and any bad reactions to medicines you have had. Storing information in one place makes it easier for healthcare staff to treat you in an emergency, or when your GP practice is closed. This information could make a difference to how a doctor decides to care for you, for example which medicines they choose to prescribe for you.
