Scottish Museums Council
Museum & Art Gallery in Edinburgh, Scotland
We act as the representative for our sector, promoting its work to the public, stakeholders and the Scottish Government. This involves speaking on behalf of the sector and showing that museums and galleries are not only custodians of Scotland's rich and diverse history, but have a wealth to contribute to modern society. Our core work involves supporting the sector both through funding (as the main channel for Scottish Government funding) and through advice and training covering all areas of our members work.

In partnership with Mnemoscence, the Museums of the University of St Andrews have developed a tool, Exhibit, which allows students to engage virtually with one of our most valuable teaching. As the deadline draws closer for applications to the Business Support Programme 'Surviving to Thriving: Supporting Sustainable Scottish Heritage Businesses' we asked Fiona Skiffington, our Business Support Manager, to update.
About Us
read moreWe're here to support Scotland's more than 400 museums and galleries, whether through strategic investment, advice, advocacy, skills development or other means. Museums Galleries Scotland developed the National Strategy, 'Going Further', in consultation with Scotland's museums sector, and it was launched in March 2012. The compelling and inclusive shared vision has greater public value firmly at its heart. Our Board helps provide support and direction to our organisation. They bring to our organisation a wide range of skills and experience in business, academia and the cultural sector.
