Orrell Chiropody Practice
read moreAt Orrell Chiropody Practice, we offer a wide range of specialist treatments including surgery with local anaesthetic, verruca treatment and biomechanical assessments with our fully trained specialists. Nail surgery involves the partial (partial nail avulsion) or complete (total nail avulsion) removal of the nail. This means that the offending sides do not grow again, leaving a slightly thinner nail. Treatment varies depending on various factors, eg. Type, size, number, location, age of patient, patients occupation etc.
About Us
read moreThese are caused by a virus, the human papilloma virus.it is the same virus that causes warts, so a verruca is simply a wart on the foot. There are many types of human papilloma virus ( over 70 ) and so they come in many shapes and sizes, some easier to treat than others. The infected cells can not be cured, they must be destroyed. If any of the cells survive treatment, then the verruca will reappear. The surface usually appears rough and cauliflower like, and you may also see small dots, these are blood vessels.
Biomechanics
read moreThis is were your podiatrist assesses and analyzes the way your body functions during the gait cycle, (the way in which you walk). Abnormalities in the gait cycle can be the primary cause of many aches and pains, particularly in the sportsperson. When we walk, run or stand our body has to adapt and compensate for the stresses and strains placed upon it. This can cause pain in the foot, knee and back joints, as well as muscular and tendon pains. At Orrell Chiropody Practice the podiatrist will usually have the patient walk and/or run on our treadmill.
Corn Removal
read moreNails are cut, filed, cleared and reduced (ground down to a normal thickness) as part of the basic treatment. Patches of hard skin, callus, are common, and are removed painlessly as part of the basic appointment / treatment cost. These are caused by pressure and/or friction. These are normally removed by our podiatrist as part of routine treatment, and so is treated as part of the basic appointment charge. These are usually removed (anucleated) painlessly with a scalpel blade. No local anaesthesia is required.
Corn Removal
read moreShoes that don't fit properly are the source of many foot problems - the higher the heel, the worse the problems tend to be. Slip-on shoes are one of the worst culprits, as they cause the foot to slide forward and cramp the toes. Worst of all are court shoes, as they are low-fronted, giving no support to the foot, and tend to be too narrow in the toe box. If you have foot problems, it is important to look at the cause, which is most likely to be your shoes. For frequent, everyday wear, choose a low-heeled shoe - no higher than 4cm - which has a rounded toe.
Nail Surgery
read moreThese conditions will predispose the nail to grow into the skin at the side of the nail, or for the skin to swell and press into the nail causing pain, and lead to infection which must be treated immediately. These are problems that are of particular concern to diabetic patients, and other at risk patients. Antibiotic cover may be necessary, but alone is not sufficient. The cause must be addressed or the infection will return after the course of antibiotics have ceased. Whilst conservative podiatric care can help to prevent pain or infection, this will not cure the problem.
