Music Lessons in Wolverhampton, West Midlands
Music Lessons in Wolverhampton, West Midlands For music teachers, individual experience counts, as well as having the correct qualifications for the job. You need to establish what type of musical grounding your teacher can offer and what instruments they play and whether they are skilled in a range of musical styles. If you want to play jazz piano, for example, a music teacher who has played only classical piano may not be suitable.

First lesson failure
First lesson failure! My son attended for his beginner piano session with Stephen Barratt. He has a diagnosis of autism which I thoroughly explained during the booking process. They assured me that Steve is experienced, has several other autistic pupils and another with a disability so I felt reassured and confident to go ahead with the booking.

After paying £20 for the 30 minute session we walked down to the music room, from a parent's perspective the lesson appeared to go well. Admittedly extra patience was needed and more frequent/ reworded instructions however it certainly wasn't at all extreme or problematic. I recorded several videos including what he'd learnt in the 30 minute lesson from outside the room and it's a clear demonstration of him following successful instruction and actively seeking to learn.

At the end of the lesson I popped in to ask Steve's professional opinion to how he felt my son had coped and asked if he was happy for us to return. He expressed how enthusiastic and excited he was for his first lesson and said certainly bring him along next week. I took a couple of joyful photos at the piano, a happy memory to look back on and for him to be proud sharing with school friends and family of his first lesson.

On the drive home I was flabbergasted to receive a call advising that Steve is not prepared to teach my son and we're unable to return to the music school again. The only reason given is that Steve is not experienced enough to with special needs despite being advised before booking that he was in fact the most experienced at the school.

I have requested a more detailed explanation from Midland music to what it is that went so wrong that we are ultimately banned from returning.
I strongly recommend that anyone with SEN avoids at all cost and I hope by reporting this disheartening incident that no other child will experience such discrimination and be left demoralised from...

My hubby surprised me with drum lessons for my anniversary and they totally accommodated his suprise present to me. Friendly staff. Love my lessons and would totally recommend to anyone to have Jarv teach you drums. Always have a laugh while learning. Started as a complete beginner and now have the confidence to go for it as I learn new songs.
Wouldn't go anywhere else
