The agreement to establish the Confucius Institute for Scotland was announced in March 2005 shortly after which work started to refurbish Abden House, a baronial mansion in the University of Edinburgh, as the prestigious headquarters building for the Institute. Professor Natascha Gentz, Chair of Chinese in the University was appointed as Director of the Institute. She rapidly developed an outreach programme and working in partnership with University team and external agencies 2007 saw 'Cinema China' launch across Scotland.

read moreAt the Confucius Institute for Scotland we offer a range of learning opportunities and different ways to develop an understanding of China. Our students range in age from 16 to 70 plus but all share an enjoyment of learning. The Institute offers over 60 timetabled language courses a year as well as workplace classes, private classes, cross cultural courses and public workshops. With expert teaching, small classes and the chance to quickly acquire basic Chinese language skills, check out our programme of classes all of which are led by qualified staff who speak good English, who will help you to enjoy your learning.
