Mark was educated in Crewe before studying Podiatric Medicine at The Northern College of Chiropody, Salford, graduating in 1989. In addition to working as a private practitioner, Mark worked on a part-time basis with the NHS until 2001. In 1991 Mark was appointed by the local NHS Chiropody department to set up and head the Nail Surgery Unit, which specialised in the conservative and surgical removal of ingrowing toenails. In 1999 Mark earned qualifications in the usage of Electrosurgical Desiccation and Hyfrecation for the treatment of Neurovascular corns and resistant warts and verrucae.
