About Us
read moreBunyan Baptist Church has been loving and serving Stevenage since 1898, taking its name from the historic Christian author and leader John Bunyan. There have been a lot of different things going on over the years, but on this site you'll find some information about several of the activities we currently offer, and a bit of back ground to the church. Located on the A1(M) just north of London, Stevenage is a fast-growing New Town of around 90,000 people. Bunyan Baptist Church is situated in the original 'Old Town' and welcomes people of all ages, from all backgrounds: normally around 200 on a Sunday morning, 40 on a Sunday evening, and anything from 5-55 people at our midweek groups.

Our Elders, Pastoral Care Team and others are going to try and make sure we all keep hold of our connections to one another. Don't be surprised if you get a call, message or email, from someone at Bunyan most weeks just to see how we can be praying for you. One thing that is still the same in our Pastoral Care is that you can get in touch with us too if you're feeling particularly worried, facing bereavement, struggling to get what you need, feeling lonely, or just need someone to talk to or pray with, please do get in touch.

read morePrayer is simply conversation with God - when you pray, you are speaking what's on your heart and God hears you and listens to you. It's asking Him to meet your needs or somebody else's. It's praising Him and thanking Him. Nothing is too big or too small to pray about! At Bunyan, we believe that prayer is really important which is why our prayer team is available to pray with you, in confidence, during or after each service. You can spot any prayer team member by their yellow lanyard. Prayer plays a big part in our services and we also have regular prayer meetings for our missionary families, a prayer chain as well as whole church prayer meetings which everybody is invited to attend.

read moreAs a Baptist church, we think Baptism is wonderful! Baptism is all about obedience and symbolism. Jesus asks His followers to get baptised; and in one sense that's a good enough reason to do it. Baptism is personal choice, as an outworking and consequence of faith in Jesus. Although some church traditions baptise the very young, we generally pray for our young children, with acts of dedication of thanksgiving if the family chooses, and reserve baptism for those who are making or have made a personal commitment to Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
