About Us
read moreThe Ubiquitous Chip, located on Ashton Lane in Glasgow's west end, was established by Ronnie Clydesdale in January 1971 with the firm idea of bringing Scotland's endangered cuisine out of the home and into the restaurant, asserting that Scotland had some of the finest raw materials anywhere. This idea was thought to be revolutionary or even plain daft. No one else wrote on the menu, 'Oban landed hake' or 'Ramsay's of Carluke bacon' for instance. However, it's an idea which is now commonplace for restaurants to sing about and we're proud to have pioneered such practice which has established us as one of the best restaurants in the west end of Glasgow.

Listen to the water trickling into the coy carp filled pond, while enjoying our contemporary take on Scottish fine dining. At all levels Scottishness is very much at the core of our identity. Provenance and seasonality have always been our mantra, celebrating Scottish produce, dishes and ingredients - an honest, caring approach to cooking. We've been devotedly making our own haggis since 1971 - 50 years of making our own haggis - that's dedication!
