The Ski Exchange got its name when, in 1985, it opened for business as the Ski and Tack Exchange. It began by selling mainly 2nd hand items for skiing and horse riding, both of which represented the interests of the owner and his wife. Gradually, the winter sports side of the business out grew the equestrian side and it was renamed The Ski Exchange Ltd and concentrated on selling mainly new clothing, equipment and accessories with a decreasing number of exchanged items.
