The Merchant's Inn
Bar Club in Rugby, Warwickshire
Nestling in the middle of undiscovered Warwickshire countryside, Rugby holds the unique position as the birthplace of the game of rugby football. Now a sport played and appreciated by millions, the game of rugby started on the Close at Rugby School in 1823 when William Webb Ellis 1st took the ball in his arm and ran with it. And it is just over the road from the close, in the shadows of the picturesque Rugby School and in full-view of the Close, where the Merchants Inn can be found.
