The Disabled Sailing Association
Disability Services in Torquay, Devon
We strive to give people with a disability the possibility to enjoy a safe and pleasurable experience of seagoing sailing, including short local cruising of about two to three hours and, for the more adventurous, longer coastal passages. Currently we currently have Disability Awareness-trained volunteer helpers, all with CRB clearance, working with our disabled members enabling people to participate as fully as possible in a seagoing, sailing experience.

The Disabled Sailing Association
read moreThe Disabled Sailing Association is a Torquay-based sailing charity, run for the disabled, by the disabled. Our aim is, wherever possible, to give everybody, no matter what their disability, the opportunity to enjoy the experience of seagoing sailing in a safe and pleasurable environment, and to encourage them to be involved in an activity that many believe they are excluded from. Our objective is to provide the fun and freedom of sailing at sea on one of our specially modified, modern sailing yachts for all disabled people, their family and carers.
History
read moreThe Disabled Sailing Association was formed and was registered as a charity in March 2006. In our first season we sailed in a 20 ft Felicity called Moonshine. Lottery grants and a local fundraising charity "SEEING" provided life jackets, safety equipment, moorings and training. In November 2007 DSA won the Big Lottery Fund Peoples Millions competition run by ITV. This enabled us to buy a brand new Class A Ocean sailing 35ft Hanse 350 and adapt her for wheelchair users as well as our other members with disabilities.
