read moreBeyond the old vicarage is a massive masonry retaining wall supporting the highway below Widcombe Crescent. The new development involves a 2 storey masonry extension to the existing house which spans the space between the vicarage and the retaining wall. Past attempts to strengthen the wall have been almost completely ineffective, and a major function of the new extension is to replace these older buttresses by building lateral strength into the floors and walls of the extension. This will provide the support required to ensure the future stability of the wall.

read moreThis two-storey oak cruck-framed house is a bed and breakfast extension to a 1960s house - with a twist. Part self-build, the project was designed to achieve high environmental standards from the outset, and is unusual in a number of respects. The frame uses traditional pegged and morticed and tenoned connections, and Structurelle worked closely with a local timber supplier to source the right materials. We were also consulted over the use of straw bale infill panels for the walls and rammed earth floors at ground level.

read moreA Grade I listed building, unused for up to 100 years and a very sensitive site, partly because of its location adjacent to one of England's very few remaining Saxon churches. The client wanted to convert the very small building into a workshop and link it with a neighbouring house. The project involved repairs to trusses and the construction of an appropriate structure between the house and fire station, featuring oak frames and glazing. Considerable repairs were made to the masonry. One of the principal challenges with this project was to ensure that all improvements complied with some very strictly-applied planning and listed buildings restrictions.
