Information on previous experience, competence levels and actual situation is important in order to ensure that the course focuses on the precise needs of each cohort of teachers. In some cases there will also be a pre-course task to complete. During the course each participant will keep a learning journal and be asked to produce an action plan. An end of course certificate is issued detailing course content, hours and dates, while continued post-course support is provided through social media and email.

The vast majority of our students choose homestay accommodation for the insight it gives into the British way of life, the comfortable and friendly environment it offers and, of course, the benefits of being able to continually practise the English skills developed at school in real life situations. However, we understand that some students may wish to be more independent and stay in private accommodation.

read moreWe are looking for teachers who are passionate about English language learning to teach on our summer courses either at the Year Round Centre or at our Summer Vacation Centre in Scarborough. A CELTA/Cert. TESOL equivalent qualification must contain at least six hours supervised teaching practice and be validated by a recognised body. QTS: A PGCE in a relevant subject (eg English, Modern languages) and/ or experience in teaching the relevant age level is an appropriate qualification for teaching under 18s on our summer courses.

The emphasis is on maximising student involvement in the language by engaging them in thought-provoking activities and projects. We aim to make the classes interactive and stimulating, while building the confidence of the students when communicating in English. A full day visit to an English state school can be arranged if dates are compatible with the school timetable. The visit will replace one teaching day at Scarborough International School.

This is why our social programme is such an integral part of our courses and educational philosophy. Our vacation courses include a scheduled social programme, incorporating all-day excursions and afternoon/evening social events and activities, while an optional social programme is organised as a component of our other courses.

I've been to Scarborough International School twice now, first taking a Teen Vacation course and then, two years later, an Intensive General English for 6 months. The staff are amazing and lovely people, the teachers are professional; if the school wasn't amazing I wouldn't have gone there twice and you know what, I would go there a the third time, but the next time with my brothers. About Scarborough, it's a very nice and safe place to visit and live, you could have a nice time on the lovely beach.
