read moreO K, I'm the first one to put my hand up - I joined the TV home programme game. I was 'discovered' when the BBC called at my yard, asking for an 'expert' to advise on the making of a series following the restoration of an old cottage in Northamptonshire. Wrapped up in the excitement, the next thing I knew, someone was shouting 'action' and I came flying out of a door, tripped up cut my leg and was told I was a natural. Yeah, right! Having been on the other side of the camera, I hope that these pieces of eye candy on our TV screens stimulate people's ideas but don't give them the wrong ones.

read moreYou could travel the length and breadth of the country to find a selection of original Victorian fire surrounds. Well to help you in your search I have been going round collecting them. As you can see my last hunting trip was very successful. For those of you who cannot see through the layers of paint believe me lurking hidden from view is the wonderful warm colour of antique pine. Occasionally we get some in their original paint which looks lovely left as they are but the majority have modern gloss paint finishes so we generally strip and wax as you can see in the following images.

read moreThese little chaps have proved to be extremely popular, and we often receive enquiries about them through this site. We have had problems with delivery in the past. One customer in particular had a dragon delivered to her home, and was disappointed to find it had been damaged en route. We sent a replacement and this suffered the same fate. We had no option but to ask new owners to collect them. However, we have now invested in some new machinery and we are happy to say that we can now ship worldwide.

read moreIf you want to know what's going to be fashionable in homes next year, go and see what architectural antique yards are selling now. Anything that's unusual or in demand will be reproduced and old shapes will influence new designs. Some people are after that old 'look' and so age isn't important to them, whilst others want things with a history. But while there are an increasing amount of reproductions to tempt us, there are still those who want original - or at least try to find original first.
