read moreIn the early 70's R H Irving Construction was established in Carlisle as a small independent groundworks firm. One of our first contracts then was helping to complete the new Manchester Airport development. Our core speciality has always been civil engineering and groundworks, however we remain a trusted contractor on a range of construction projects. Over the years we have worked on some of the major building and engineering projects in Cumbria, including major housing developments, urban regeneration schemes, trunk road improvements, cycleways, building projects, bridge strengthening and riverbank stabilisation.

The Scottish Executive awarded R H Irving Construction Ltd with the task of undertaking remedial works to stabilise this section of the road. The works involved creation of an extensive reinforced concrete retaining wall, fixed to the existing slope using rock anchors. read moreR H Irving Construction Ltd are pleased to report that our nominated charity, Fletcher's Fund, are expanding. We have supported the Fletcher's Fund since May 2018 when Leanne was working from home and we supplied a storage unit for their isolation bag materials. The charity has grown since then with Leanne and the team of trustees and volunteers now needing bigger premises to provide office space and storage, as well as bag packing space on one site. Their new place has fulfilled that requirement and we are pleased to continue with our support.

We are responsible for installation of the roads and sewers as well as plot works for this third phase of development at Barnhill, Dumfries. R H Irving Construction were responsible for the groundworks on a new housing development for Two Castles Housing at Gelt Rise in Brampton, Cumbria. R H Irving Construction Ltd has worked for a number of major house builders over more than thirty years, carrying out works to provide road infrastructure, sewers and drainage as well as plotworks.

read moreThe work involved creating a cycle trail, formation of two concrete abutments on each side of the river and placing the bridge over. The bridge arrived by road, in smaller sections, then was assembled on the ground and lifted into place. The river Caldew had eroded bridge abutments at the Sheepmount in Carlisle. R H Irving Construction Ltd were tasked with repairing the structures, commencing with installation of gabion baskets and piling. The area was then landscaped with anchored reeds to provide eco-friendly protection against further erosion.
