The gravel boards serve to keep the boards from getting too wet and also as the name suggests to hold back gravel or soil. 5 Here we see the reverse of the fence. This will normally face the property when the fence fronts onto a public path/road. The reason for this is to prevent the arris rails being used to scale the fence. This does not have to be the case when using this type of fence to separate rear gardens not accessible by the public.
