The Bolton-born all-rounder Jimmy Hallows performed admirably in the 1904 county cricket championship season. A prominent member of the Lancashire side that was undefeated in winning the title he became the 1st Lancashire cricketer to reach the 1st-class double in county championship cricket, scoring 1, 058 runs and taking 108 wickets, including career-finest performances with both bat and ball. He was subsequently named as one of the Five Cricketers of the Year in John Wisden's Cricketers? Almanack for 1905 in recognition of his achievements the previous summer.
