A visit will add a new dimension to your stay in Teignmouth and Shaldon, illuminating your understanding of how these towns got to be how they are now by delivering a rich reminder of how they were - a history in miniature of Britain's maritime and artistic past. The information on this site supplies a brief introduction to several of the important people and happenings in Teignmouth's and Shaldon's past. These include local hero Sir Edward Pellew, one of the major naval heroes; Donald Crowhurst who died seeking maritime glory; Parish Alvars who became the world's leading harpist and composer.

About Us
read moreThe Centre offers local residents and visitors the opportunity to explore the fascinating heritage of the area, as well as attend events, concerts and workshops. The original Museum, housed in an 18th-century building, was granted to the Teignmouth Historical Society to set up a Museum and this was opened in July 1978. We, therefore, celebrated our 40th anniversary year in 2018. The building was given a 1.1m transformation and annexe, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the CABE/ Sea Change Initiative, the Foyle Foundation, Viridor, English Heritage and many other funders, supporters and individual donors.
