Dating back to the Domesday Book, Owston Estate was the home of the Davies Cooke family. Through the years the Estate was reduced in size to leave Owston Hall surrounded by 170 acres of prime agricultural land. Prior to World War 2, the farm land was developed into the Robin Hood Golf Course, earning its name from Robin Hood's Well, located in the grounds, reputed to have been frequented by Robin Hood himself. During the war the land was returned to agriculture. Since 1996, Owston Hall has been sympatheticaly restored along with the Old Stable block to supply the Hotel, business and leisure facilities currently available and the farm land has once again become the Robin Hood Golf Course.
