I work in multimedia and live in scotland. I played in bands for many years and then went on to study audio & video production, later i did a 16mm film course. This led to work as a producer, editor and cameraman. Further down the road i returned to university to study social science, segued to an MSc in multimedia technology and for the last 8 years i've been a digital developer on over 250 projects. During much of this time i ve kept playing the guitar and various other instruments and writing songs.

read moreMy research involves investigating our relationship with nature. I practice permaculture (a sustainable design framework) to explore thoughtful, co-created, grassroots interventions that put care of the environment central to thinking and doing. I'm interested in what happens at the edges, the relationships between things, improvisation and spontaneity, deep understanding of nature, provocation and activism. Currently this involves the growth of an inspirational, urban, interactive permaculture space, on-campus at Edinburgh Napier university, where I work alongside staff, students, local and international communities to create self-sustaining, bio-diverse habitats and concepts that benefit people and the planet.

For this assignment, you are required to develop a design for a mobile application that demonstrates at least three aspects of permaculture. Crucially your design should be appropriate for your chosen user group. For this assignment you are required to design and evaluate ideas for a user-centred physical system to be installed in the grounds at Merchiston, which demonstrates the blending of aspects of permaculture and UX.
