
The United Reformed Church was established in 1972 as a result of a merger between the Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England. The Church entered into union with the Reformed Churches of Christ in 1981 and in April 2000 with the Congregational Union of Scotland. The Church has some 1750 congregations in England, Wales and Scotland, representing a community of around 250, 000 people of all ages. The URC is the biggest representative in England of the Reformed tradition, itself the biggest sector of the Protestant Churches world-huge, with in excess of 70 million members.
