The city of Ayutthaya was established by King U-Thong in 1350 and was the capital of then Siam, Now Thailand for over 400 years. Ayutthaya became one of the biggest cities within Asia during the 17th century and was admired by foreign visitors for its outstanding beauty and prosperity. During its history Ayutthaya was involved in some 70 wars and twice suffered major defeats. Eventually, in 1769, the city of Ayutthaya was totally destroyed and burnt down resulting in the move of the capital to Bangkok which remains as the capital city today.
