SER Ltd have been appointed by the Scottish Government Building Standard Division (BDS) to administer a scheme for Certification of Design (Building Structures), the driver being new legislation introduced in Scotland - the Building (Scotland) Act 2003. Registration enables an Engineer who is a member of the scheme as an Approved Certifier of Design (Building Structures) to certify the structural design of buildings in Scotland and to include the necessary certification within any application to Local Authorities for a Building Warrant.

After being made an Associate in 1997 Mike took responsibility for the Building Surveying team and later became Director responsible for this part of the business. In 2006 Mike also took responsibility for Structural Engineering in the Hull Office. In 2009, Mike moved to the Scarborough office to lead the team of Engineers and Technicians based there.
