Children's Music Academy provides one to one music lessons for children and teenagers in Fitzrovia, Central London. Children can study piano, guitar, bass guitar, singing, violin, cello, flute, saxophone and drums with teachers experienced in working specifically with younger pupils.

Lessons are tailored to each child's age, level and personality. A three year old discovering the piano through musical games needs a very different approach from a teenager preparing for a graded examination, and we match each pupil carefully with an appropriate teacher.

Lessons run weekly on a set day and time, for 20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on age. A child can start at any time of year: there is no need to wait until September, or for a new term to begin.

Children are taught with patience, encouragement and constructive guidance. Lessons are matched to the level each child is at, so beginners and more advanced pupils alike progress at a comfortable pace. Graded examinations with ABRSM and Trinity College London are available and entirely optional.

The Academy was founded by the British master pianist Celine Gaurier-Joubert. Our studios are on Great Titchfield Street, convenient for families in Fitzrovia, Marylebone, Soho, Mayfair, Bloomsbury and the surrounding Central London areas. Fees are paid monthly in advance.

Children's piano lessons in London
Our one to one piano lessons for children build strong musical foundations while keeping every lesson enjoyable and suited to the child's age and ability. Beginners start with the geography of the keyboard, hand position and a steady pulse, then move into reading notation, rhythm and simple two hand playing. More experienced pupils work on repertoire, sight reading, pedalling, phrasing and musical interpretation, in classical and contemporary styles alike. Piano suits the youngest starters particularly well, because a child can make a satisfying sound from the very first lesson. Preparation for ABRSM and Trinity College London graded examinations is available for pupils who want a structured pathway.
Children's guitar lessons in London
Children can learn acoustic, classical or electric guitar in friendly one to one lessons shaped around the music they actually want to play. Young guitarists develop clean fretting, picking and strumming technique, chord changes, rhythm and coordination, alongside an ear for how songs are put together. Complete beginners are very welcome, as are children who have already started elsewhere and want to progress properly. Instruments are sized to the child, so smaller hands are never fighting a full size neck. Graded examination preparation can be included where it suits the pupil.
Children's bass guitar lessons in London
Bass guitar gives children an excellent grounding in rhythm, groove and playing as part of a band. Pupils develop timing, finger and plectrum technique, listening skills and an understanding of how bass lines lock in with drums and hold a song together. We cover rock, pop, funk, blues and jazz according to what the child enjoys. Bass is a strong first instrument, and equally a natural second one for a child who already plays guitar or piano. Lessons are shaped to the pupil's level and musical interests.
Children's singing lessons in London
Our children's singing lessons introduce healthy vocal technique, musicianship and confident performance in a supportive setting. Young singers work on breathing and posture, pitch and tuning, tone, diction, rhythm and expression. Teaching is strictly age appropriate: a developing voice is never pushed, and children are encouraged to discover what their voice can do naturally as it grows. Repertoire is chosen with the pupil, from musical theatre and pop to classical song. Many children find singing the fastest route to performing confidently in front of other people.
Children's violin lessons in London
The violin rewards patience and good foundations, so our children's lessons build them carefully from the first session. Pupils work on posture and violin hold, bow hold and bow control, left hand shape, intonation, tone production and reading notation. Progress is measured in small, achievable steps, because early habits on a string instrument last for years. Instruments come in fractional sizes, so the violin always fits the child. ABRSM and Trinity College London preparation can be incorporated for pupils following a graded route.
Children's cello lessons in London
Cello lessons help children become genuinely comfortable with a large instrument while developing posture, technique, tone and musical confidence. For younger beginners we take particular care that the cello is correctly sized and that playing feels natural rather than physically demanding. Pupils work on bow control, left hand position, intonation and a warm, singing tone. More experienced cellists move into repertoire, reading, vibrato and interpretation, and can prepare for graded examinations where that suits them.
Children's flute lessons in London
Children learning the flute are introduced gradually to breathing, embouchure, tone production, fingering and reading, with steady encouragement as confidence grows. A clear sound can take a little time at the beginning, so our teachers work patiently and adapt each lesson to the child's age, physical development and stamina. Once a reliable tone arrives, progress is often rapid. Pupils who already play work on technique, articulation, scales, repertoire and musical expression, and can prepare for graded examinations.
Children's saxophone lessons in London
The saxophone is one of the most expressive instruments a child can take up, at home in jazz, classical, pop, funk and film music. Beginners are guided through embouchure, breath support, tone, fingering, rhythm and reading. Pupils with previous experience develop technique, articulation, improvisation and repertoire, and build the fluency that makes playing with others enjoyable. Alto saxophone is the usual starting point for children, being the most manageable size and weight. Graded examination preparation is available where appropriate.
Children's drum lessons in London
Drum lessons are a lively, physical and very engaging way for children to develop rhythm, coordination and concentration. Pupils learn on a full kit, combining practical playing with listening, timing, stick technique and rhythmic reading. Beginners start with the essential grooves and a dependable sense of pulse, while more experienced young drummers work on fills, independence, dynamics and styles from rock and pop through to funk and jazz. Drumming suits children with plenty of energy, and it builds coordination and focus that carry across into other instruments.

Director
Stefan Joubert is a director of Children's Music Academy and a master guitarist who has worked in music education for more than two decades. He founded London Guitar Institute at the end of 2011 and has since helped build a group of specialist music schools in London, each run on the same principle: one to one teaching, by teachers chosen for the pupils they actually teach. At Children's Music Academy he oversees the running of the school alongside its founder, the British master pianist Celine Gaurier-Joubert. His priority for every family who joins is a simple one — that a child is matched to the right teacher for their age and temperament, and that lessons stay something the child looks forward to.
