Your Trusted Veterinary Care Partner in Edinburgh
Thistle Vets was established in 1982 as Lanark Road Vet Surgery by Ken and Sue Urquhart. Over four decades, the practice expanded, relocating to Alcorn Rigg in 1997 and opening a second clinic in Chesser in 2012, which was refurbished in 2023. The practice transitioned ownership in 2015 to Donald and James, with Scott joining as a Director in 2020 to ensure continued independent, compassionate care. Our team includes veterinarians with advanced qualifications in cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and more, supported by experienced nurses and reception staff. We prioritise preventative care through Pet Health Plans and offer advanced services like orthopaedic surgery, acupuncture, and diagnostic imaging.

Services
Vaccinations
We provide core and optional vaccinations for dogs, cats, and rabbits to prevent life-threatening diseases. Our tailored schedules ensure pets receive protection from distemper, parvovirus, leukaemia, and more. Vaccinations are included in our Pet Health Plans to spread costs and ensure timely coverage.
Emergency Services
Our clinics offer emergency treatment for pets outside regular hours. With dedicated contact numbers and experienced staff, we handle critical cases like injuries, poisoning, and acute illnesses. Emergency care ensures pets receive immediate attention when needed most.
Pet Health Plans
These plans spread annual vaccination and parasite prevention costs into monthly payments. They include flea, worm, and tick treatments alongside routine check-ups. Plans offer discounts on additional services, making preventative care affordable and accessible for pet owners.
Orthopaedic Surgery
We perform advanced procedures like TPLO and MMP implants for cruciate ligament disease, patellar luxation correction, and fracture repairs. In-house surgical capabilities eliminate the need for external referrals, ensuring continuity of care for complex orthopaedic conditions.
Dental Care
Our services include scale and polish treatments, digital dental x-rays, and surgical extractions. Specialised root canal therapy preserves damaged teeth where possible. Regular dental check-ups prevent periodontal disease and maintain overall health in dogs and cats.
