UK's Largest Horse Welfare Charity
Redwings Horse Sanctuary stands as the UK's largest horse welfare charity, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. Since our founding, we have provided lifelong sanctuary care for over 1,300 rescued equines while facilitating the rehoming of an additional 700 animals into loving guardian homes. Our operations rely entirely on public donations, enabling us to respond to urgent rescues, deliver veterinary care, and advocate for stronger animal welfare legislation. Through educational outreach programs like Redwings Academy and Young Reds initiatives, we promote responsible horse ownership and raise awareness about equine welfare issues. Our campaigning efforts focus on critical concerns such as reducing fireworks noise pollution to protect horses' wellbeing, supported by our successful parliamentary petition achieving 100,000 signatures. With six dedicated care centres across the UK, we combine professional expertise with compassionate care to ensure every animal in our charge receives appropriate shelter, medical treatment, and emotional support.

Services
horse adoption
Our adoption programme allows supporters to sponsor specific rescued horses and donkeys. Each adoption includes regular updates, a certificate, and a photograph of the sponsored animal. This initiative provides vital funding for ongoing care while connecting donors with the sanctuary's work.
sanctuary care
We provide lifelong sanctuary care for rescued equines requiring specialist attention. Our six centres offer secure housing, veterinary treatment, and daily care for animals unable to be rehomed. This includes managing chronic health conditions and providing psychological rehabilitation for trauma survivors.
educational outreach
Redwings Academy delivers equine welfare education through school programs and community initiatives. Our Young Reds programme engages children with horse care principles while providing teacher resources about responsible animal ownership and Black Beauty's historical context.
rehoming program
The Guardianship Scheme matches rescued horses with approved adopters while maintaining sanctuary support. Our rehoming team carefully assesses compatibility between animals and guardians, providing ongoing guidance for successful long-term placements.
welfare campaigns
We campaign for systemic improvements in equine welfare through targeted initiatives. Current efforts focus on reducing fireworks noise pollution and combating strangles disease. Our parliamentary petition demonstrates public support for legislative changes benefiting horse welfare.
