Welcome to Westhoughton Evangelical Church
Westhoughton Evangelical Church has served the spiritual needs of our community since 1889, rooted in the unchanging truths of the Holy Bible. Our congregation, comprising individuals from diverse backgrounds, is united by a shared commitment to worship, biblical teaching, and evangelism. We hold steadfast to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, emphasizing reformed doctrine while rejecting hyper-Calvinism to maintain evangelistic outreach. Our services feature expository preaching, congregational singing of psalms and hymns, and opportunities for children's ministry.

With a rich heritage of pastoral leadership spanning over 130 years, we continue to prioritize scriptural authority and authentic Christian fellowship. Our mission extends beyond weekly worship through Bible studies, prayer meetings, and open-air evangelism, seeking to share the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. We welcome all visitors to experience our traditional, reverent approach to worship and community.

Services
Sunday School
Our Sunday School program provides age-appropriate biblical instruction for children. Using the King James Version Bible, we teach foundational Christian doctrines through engaging lessons and activities. The program operates concurrently with morning worship services, offering parents the opportunity to participate in church services while their children learn about Scripture.
Morning Worship
Our 11am Sunday morning worship service features reverent congregational singing of psalms and hymns, prayer, and expository preaching. Following traditional reformed practice, services include systematic Bible teaching and opportunities for corporate worship. The service typically lasts 75 minutes, followed by informal fellowship time.
Evening Service
The 6:30pm Sunday evening service offers additional worship opportunities with shorter sermons and focused prayer. This service provides a more intimate setting for reflection and spiritual growth. Both services maintain our commitment to biblical authority and traditional worship practices.
Bible Study
Weekly Tuesday Bible studies explore specific books of the Bible in depth. Currently studying Paul's letter to the Galatians, these sessions emphasize verse-by-verse exposition. Participants receive printed materials and access to recorded sessions for continued learning and personal growth.
Prayer Meeting
Integrated with our Bible study sessions, prayer meetings focus on corporate intercession and spiritual fellowship. Participants engage in structured prayer covering specific church needs, community concerns, and global missions. This practice reflects our belief in prayer's essential role in Christian life.
