University Of Wales: Heritage & Innovation in Higher Education
Established in 1893 through the dedication of Welsh citizens, the University Of Wales has played a pivotal role in advancing higher education in Wales. Our institution supports the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru, Gregynog Hall, and the University Of Wales Press, all of which promote Welsh language, heritage, and culture. In 2011, we initiated a merger with Swansea Metropolitan University and the University Of Wales Trinity Saint David, culminating in a unified institution in 2017 that builds on historical excellence to deliver innovative education. Our mission addresses Wales' specific needs while offering globally attractive programs. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elwen Evans, KC, leads our commitment to academic excellence and regional development. We maintain a strong regional presence through learning centres in Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, and Swansea. Our governance is overseen by the University Council, ensuring adherence to high standards. The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 reinforces our commitment to treating Welsh and English equally. Our regalia, including the University Mace and Seal, symbolise our heritage. We provide academic support through the Online Library and Registry services, serving students worldwide. Our alumni network connects graduates globally, fostering professional and social collaboration.
