Who can benefit from acupuncture treatment?

In Chinese medicine there is a saying: where there is flow, there is no pain; where there is pain, there is no flow …..

This is one of the fundamental concepts in Traditional Acupuncture, pain & discomfort can show up in many ways & in a wide range of conditions.

Patterns of signs & symptoms, both explained & unexplained, are the sorts of information that can help an acupuncturist make sense of what is going on with you & guide them to the correct treatment principle for you.

  • The British Acupuncture Council, of which I am a member, has a website that has a number of fact sheets, review papers & research with balanced research information relating to a range of conditions that may be helped by acupuncture including fertility, menopause, insomnia, asthma & seasonal allergy to name a few. You can access them here: https://acupuncture.org.uk/about-acupuncture/acupuncture-research/evidence-a-z/
  • People come to acupuncture with a wide range of conditions such as issues surrounding fertility, painful periods, PMS, menopausal changes, anxiety, panic attacks, headaches, both tension & migraine, digestive complaints, nausea & vomiting,  knee, hip, lower back pain, other musculoskeletal aches & pains, the list goes on.

  • Acupuncture is widely considered to be helpful in a range of conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized 31 symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been demonstrated through controlled trials to be treatable by acupuncture. Thousands of years of clinical experience show that many more conditions can be helped. Traditional acupuncturists can apply principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine to modern diseases as well as old ones.

  • Acupuncture has been acknowledged by the National Institute of Health & Care Excellence (NICE) as an appropriate preventative treatment for a common health problem, tension headaches. However there are a wide range of other conditions that I have treated & that have responded well.
    • Musculo-skeletal problems are currently the mainstay of my practice, with neck & shoulder problems being the most common but elbows, knees, low back problems including sciatica, fingers, toes & ankles all feature too.
    •
    • Internal medicine problems can also respond well to acupuncture. Examples I have successfully treated include:
      • Asthma, sinusitis & hay fever are common respiratory conditions requiring treatment.
      • Digestive conditions such as IBS, bloating, gall bladder disease, diverticular disease, haemorrhoids.
      • Circulatory diseases such as Reynauds syndrome have responded.
      • Gynaecological & fertility issues, such as painful periods, PMS, sub fertility (both male & female- don't forget, it takes two to tango!) and menopausal  & peri-menopausal symptoms
      • Urology problems, such as certain types of cystitis, prostratitis, urinary frequency.
      • Insomnia, mental & emotional health
    • Give me a ring on 07590 480048 to ask any questions regarding your condition, acupuncture may be an appropriate treatment option for you. In conversation I am able to speak candidly and truthfully about my experience of treating a range of conditions.
    • You are an individual and individuals respond in different ways to treatment with acupuncture. As a Traditional Acupuncturist I take into account many different aspects of your individuality, this is likely to result in a treatment designed or modified specifically for you.
