Reducing stress is one of the best ways of improving your quality of life and Reflexology can help with that.
Due to the new Advertising Standards Authority guidelines from 1st March 2011, therapists are no longer able to claim that therapies help certain medical conditions. With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs. Using complementary therapies may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life. Everyone can benefit from a treatment, as a preventative measure to maintain good health. If you have any questions as to what would benefit you, then please contact me for advice on Complementary Therapies, including Reflexology and Aromatherapy,or a therapeutic break at our B&B in Buckland St Mary, between Chard and Taunton, Somerset.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the belief that there are reflexes in the feet that relate to all the glands, organs and parts of the body, and by massaging those reflexes we can relieve congestion, release the vital energy glow to all parts of the body and stimulate the body's natural healing powers.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the use of Essential Oils, which are natural substances, extracted from fruits, flowers, roots, trees or herbs. Carefully chosen Essential Oils can influence the body and mind, being uplifting or relaxing, stimulating or soothing. The aroma of the oils alone stimulates the brain to bring about a sense of relaxation and to refresh the mood.
Indian Head Massage is used mainly for relaxation and combating Stress. It is useful for the relief of headaches, eye strain or Muscle tension in the neck or shoulders. It may improve circulation, promote hair growth, improve concentration, help with the dispersal of toxins, aid mental tiredness and emotional stress.
Hopi Ear Candling is a gentle and non-invasive treatment. The safe introduction of heat together with the beneficial natural ingredients is a traditional method of easing pain or discomfort.
Created by a Harley Street doctor, Dr Edward Bach, in the 1930’s, the Bach Flower Remedies are 38 plant and flower based remedies that can help you manage the emotional demands of everyday life.
At the first appointment you will be asked to complete a full client consultation form asking about your lifestyle, health history and current problems. This is confidential but important to give me, the practitioner, a background to your current health status. This means a first appointment always takes approx 10 to 15 minutes longer.
This depends upon the therapy for which you are attending.
With Reflexology, you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks or tights, and then place your feet into a soothing footspa of warm water and essential oils. This is not strictly part of Reflexology but helps to relax your lower legs, whilst refreshing the feet, and getting over any embarrassment about smelly feet if you are coming straight from work. After drying your feet you stay in a nice comfortable armchair, whilst your feet are raised on a portaped, which means they are at the right level to carry out the Reflexology treatment.
If you are attending for an Aromatherapy massage, we will discuss the oils to be used in the massage, which I will then mix. I leave the room whilst you undress down to your knickers, and you then lie face down onto the couch, with a towel over your back. I return to the room and put an additional towel over your legs before commencing the massage.
For an Indian Head Massage treatment, you will be asked to remove the clothing on your top half (but can leave on your bra) and wrap a towel around yourself under your arms. You will then sit on a chair in the middle of the treatment room, and I will return to commence the seated massage.
A Hopi Ear Candles treatment is carried out fully clothed. You are asked to lie on your side, on the treatment couch. You will be covered with a throw, and then the side of your head is covered with a cloth with a hole in for the ear. The candle is lit and placed in to your ear to burn down, which takes approximately 10 minutes. This is then repeated on the other side, and after that you will receive a short relaxing face and neck massage; therefore it is best not to wear your best clothes, and certainly not to wear anything with a collar.
After any of the above treatments you are encouraged to drink a glass of water to flush out toxins.
During a Bach Flowers Remedy consultation I will ask you about the emotional issues you are going through currently and how they make you feel. I will then prepare a Bach Flowers remedy for you, which you will take away with you.
Most people will feel relaxed, calm and refreshed. However, some people may find that some reflexes are sensitive and pressing on them will cause a bit of discomfort for the few moments they are being treated. This discomfort normally only last about 30 seconds. Overall a treatment is relaxing.
Reflexology treatments have a cumulative effect and someone with an acute problem will need fewer treatments than when dealing with a chronic or long term condition. As a guide, if someone has 6 treatments they should definitely feel the benefit, but just one treatment on its own can be very beneficial, especially when not dealing with a specific problem. With other complementary therapies the numbers of treatments will vary and these will be discussed on an individual basis when you attend for the first appointment.
Any serious condition you have should always be mentioned to me before you make your appointment. If you are in any doubt as to the suitability of a treatment please phone or email me to discuss before making the first appointment. Some chronic conditions may need the permission of your medical service provider before I can proceed.
Reflexology is safe and enjoyable for pregnant women. I recommend reflexology after the first trimester if the pregnancy is stable.
Aromatherapy is quite safe when used correctly and professionally. It is important to tell me about any health issues or allergies in the consultation prior to commencing the treatment so that I can use essential oils suitable for you. I do not use any preblended oils, but always blend just enough oil to use for you when you attend for your appointment. I can also advise you how to use essential oils safely I the home, and I can make a blend for you, for home use, to enhance your treatment.
If you are currently receiving treatment or medication from your Doctor or Consultant, then it is advisable to tell them of any other forms of treatment you are receiving.
