read moreOn a daily basis, either with my own lab, client's dogs or just general observations of other dogs on walks I see problems with dogs getting too near to each other. There are many reasons that some dogs don't like others in their personal space. My own lab has learnt that most other male dogs like to sniff his genitals which he HATES. He learnt at about 9 months old to growl at dogs that approached him as he knew they would sniff him. This growling to him is successful as it usually sends the other dog away.

read moreWhen dealing with animal behaviour problems we must remember that domestic dogs are expected to live in our home environment where we try to suppress many of their natural behaviours e.g. Having said this though, I find it remarkable that we can live in harmony with pet dogs if we remember the simple rule that animals learn to do what works for them. If they are rewarded or reinforced for doing a certain behaviour they will continue to do it. This is sometimes a difficult cycle to break, especially as it is not always easy for owners to identify how their dog is being rewarded for their undesirable behaviour.

By doing this course many potential future problems can be prevented and you will be free to enjoy your new family member. This pre puppy course is 1- 2 hours and takes place in the comfort of your home. Ideally this course would be taken as soon as you decide to start looking for a puppy.
