Disability Services in Wigan, Greater Manchester
The Wheelchair Fund was established in 1980 by Mrs Doreen Taylor to help disabled kids in and around the town of Wigan by delivering them with powered kerb-climbing wheelchairs in order for them to be as mobile as possible. Neil Mahoney was the 1st youngster to receive a wheelchair from funds raised by Doreen and friends. John Martin from the Riverside Club arranged a concert in 1980, which was held at Goose Green Labour Club, J700 was raised.

read moreThe Wheelchair Fund Out and About Project is funded by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Programme. Our aim is to supply those at greatest disadvantage because of their disability with a suitably adapted piece of mobility equipment (powered wheelchairs, scooters, powerpacks) in order to reduce isolation, break down the barriers to participation and to play an active role in the life of their community.
