The nearby town of Gosport dates back to the 13th Century and, for the last 300 years, has had close links with the Royal Navy. It is now home to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Maritime Portsmouth, the home of HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose Museum and the Naval Dockyard, is a 25 minute drive away, or alternatively take the 5 minute ferry ride across the harbour from Gosport to Portsmouth. Once you have had enough of naval history you can relax at nearby Gunwharf Quays, with designer outlets and waterfront bars and restaurants.
