Upper Shirley High is a coeducational school in the centre of the Upper Shirley geographical area of Southampton. New cluster arrangements guarantee that the junior schools of Shirley and Hollybrook are the main primary links and recent developments have cemented existing collaboration between our schools, including the infant schools of Shirley, Hollybrook and Wordsworth, into something much stronger and concrete - the Upper Shirley Learning Community. Alongside the close partnerships with Tauntons College we now have dynamic progression from 'reception' through to post 16 for all kids in our local area.

At USH, we place a strong focus on not only correct spelling, punctuation and grammar, but on stretching our vocabulary to incorporate academic language as part of our everyday speech and writing. What a treat to read news which fittingly uses the now overused word 'unprecedented'.
Aviators
read moreThe house system at USH is based on a family of four: Aviators, Engineers, Mariners and Venturers. There is a spread of house tutor groups across all year groups. All students in each house come together for key events each year, including the Talent Show and our annual Sports Day. The team of tutors leading each group create a sense of belonging and encourage healthy competition. This supports a collective focus for each house and encourages the students to combine their academic learning and progress with their achievements in other areas of the USH curriculum offer, including enrichment.
