UCU is the biggest post-school union in the world: a force working for educators and education that employers and the government cannot ignore. It was established on 1 June 2006 by the amalgamation of two strong partners - the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and NATFHE-the University & College Lecturers' Union - who shared a long history of defending and advancing educators' employment and professional interests.

read moreProtect staff and students: sign the petition calling for fair funding and online learning in higher education! UCU believes that high quality education and fair working conditions depend on contracts that give staff stability and continuity of employment. Casualisation is bad for staff and bad for education, yet it's endemic in our colleges and universities. 68% of research staff in higher education are on fixed term contracts, with many more dependent on short-term funding for continued employment.
