The success of the Ulster Federation of Credit Unions (UFCU) clearly demonstrates the enterprise and industry of the Ulster people. A member of the worldwide credit union family, the seeds of the UFCU were sown in 1986. At that time concerned community leaders in South Belfast were conscious of the need to encourage the formation of community enterprises that would aid and support the people in their fields. It was recognised that there was a need to encourage the formation of community enterprises that would aid and support the people in ther areas.

Our main aim as an organisation has been to be more professional in our approach and outlook and to help our member credit unions do the same. We have 38 affiliated credit unions in Northern Ireland and in recent times our primary focus has been to improve overall governance standards, to introduce the concept of Responsible Lending, and help our affiliated credit unions understand their anti-money laundering responsibilities.
