About Us
read moreThis has been our story for more than a century, and the challenge remains great. More than 14,000 people are killed in accidents across the UK each year with thousands more suffering injuries, many of which are life-changing. We're proud to be at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world, working to stop the needless loss and devastation that accidents cause to individuals, families, communities, businesses and society as a whole. The significant reductions in death and injury on the roads and in workplaces across the UK have demonstrated that a systematic approach to accident prevention works, and we are proud to have played our part.
Your Stories
read moreStories can make a difference. They can challenge assumptions, help to raise awareness and empower others to make safer choices. They can mean the difference between a happy ending and tragedy. If you, or someone you love, have suffered a serious accident, why not share your experience with us? Even if you're not a confident writer, but you have a story you think the world needs to hear, please get in touch - after all, your experience might just save a life. Three minutes was it all it took for me get into a life-threatening situation.
Infocentre
read moreRoSPA's Infocentre library, based at the Society's headquarters in Birmingham, has a unique collection of around 25,000 safety-related resources. The Infocentre team offers an enquiry and information service on all aspects of accident prevention and health and safety, and aims to provide a response to any enquiry within two working days. RoSPA's roots lie in a meeting held on 1st December 1916 when a group of people met in London to discuss an alarming increase in road accidents. At that meeting it was proposed that a safety council be set up to raise awareness of road safety and to work for the prevention of accidents, and so in January 1917 the London "Safety First" Council held its first session.
Annual review and accounts
read moreAt RoSPA, we want to stop the needless devastation and heartache caused by accidents as we work towards our vision for "life, free from serious accidental injury". The challenge is huge. Accidents kill more than 16,000 people across the UK each year. Indeed, accidents are among the leading, but preventable, causes of death, serious injury and long-term disability affecting our population. As a registered charity with roots stretching back to 1916, we have a great heritage upon which to build. And we're confident that with our supporters, who join us in our mission to "exchange life-enhancing skills and knowledge to reduce serious accidental injuries", we will build a society where no family, business or community need suffer the anguish of an accident that didn't have to happen.
