Elton is arguably the most sought after village in Cambridgeshire. Flowing through the village is the River Nene, reputedly the inspiration for the best known kids's novel, Wind in the Willows, which is one of England's most popular boating rivers. Elton Mill and Lock is a short stroll from the front door over the village greens. Just beyond are pretty walks through meadows with an range of wildlife. Footpaths are clearly marked. in the village of Elton are the shop and Post Office found on Middle Street.
