read moreThis is one of the fundamental concepts in Traditional Acupuncture, pain & discomfort can show up in many ways & in a wide range of conditions. Patterns of signs & symptoms, both explained & unexplained, are the sorts of information that can help an acupuncturist make sense of what is going on with you & guide them to the correct treatment principle for you.
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine
read moreIt has documentary evidence going back over 2000 years and further evidence for centuries before that, yet it is also able to deal with very modern complaints e.g. Stress related conditions. It sees ill health as arising from irregularities in the way energy known as Qi (pronounced chi) moves around and within the body. Qi circulation can be affected by both internal and external factors. Qi flow can be adjusted with the assistance of your acupuncturist to help you be in the best health possible, aiming to free up energy & unblock restriction, so leading to better health and vitality.
Visiting an acupuncturist for treatment
read moreIt is helpful if no perfumed products are worn. For an initial consultation and treatment it is best to allow up to 2 hours - a prior phone consultation can help to reduce this. Follow up appointments are 45mins - 1 hour. You should not come for treatment without having eaten but nor should you have a heavy meal immediately before or afterwards. The feeling that arises from acupuncture varies but it can often be described as very relaxing yet energising, sometimes patients fall asleep. Normally needle insertion is virtually painless but that does depend on which points are used.
