A little bit of history
read moreJust in case you are interested in the history of acupuncture I have included a short piece which explains where/how it originated and how it has developed. Acupuncture has been used in the Far East to promote, restore and maintain good health for over 2,500 years. The first needles were made from stone, and then later from bronze, gold and silver. The first medical account of acupuncture was The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, which dates from about 300 BC. Acupuncture is rooted in the Daoist philosophy of change, growth, balance and harmony.
Techniques
read moreOften, when we think of needles, we think of those used for injections or blood tests. Acupuncture needles bear little resemblance to these, mainly because they are solid (not hollow) and are very much finer (and therefore less painful). However, they do have one very important feature in common in that they are sterile and designed for single use. Needles may be inserted and immediately removed or may be left in place for up to 30 minutes, depending on the effect required. Other forms of treatment alongside acupuncture needles.
Costs
read moreThe first session (consultation, diagnosis and treatment) lasts up to one and a half hours and costs 55. Subsequent treatments (45 minutes) cost 38. Anna operates a small percentage of her practice on a reduced fee basis to help those on low income. Please contact Anna if you would like to discuss this. If you have private health insurance you may find your insurer offers a sum of money to pay for therapies that are proven to be effective (eg: acupuncture and osteopathy) and provided the practitioner is registered with their professional body.
