Social & Welfare Services in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
Social & Welfare Services in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Contrary to what most people think, the RSPCA doesn't receive automatic funding and local branch animal welfare services entirely depend on voluntary income and fundraising activities. In a typical week we'll take in at least one animal with severe injuries requiring surgical repairs costing up to J500, followed by several weeks aftercare until it is well enough to be rehomed. We'll receive daily requests for aid to pay for emergency veterinary treatment and we must find J2, 500 per month to keep our animal clinic running and another J2, 000 per month to pay for boarding.

About Us
read moreThe RSPCA Cambridge takes in a wide variety of homeless animals in need of a new start. Are you looking for a new pet to share your life with? Take a look at our rehoming gallery to see the rescue animals currently in our care that need a good home. Cats and dogs are primarily adopted via the private boarding kennels where we keep them, while smaller animals such as ferrets, guinea pigs, fancy rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils etc are kept in individual fosterers' homes. You should also be aware that the smaller animals, although making lovely pets, don't have a very long lifespan.
Become a Trustee
read moreAll RSPCA local branches are independent charities in their own right, although they are governed by the RSPCA Rules for Branches. Each branch is run by a committee of a minimum of 7 and maximum of 14 trustees. We are looking to recruit potential trustees who are already RSPCA members and would be interested in standing for election at our AGM in June, or non-members interested in being co-opted following our June AGM. If you are a branch member and would like to stand for election, or to nominate another branch member, please get in touch.
Volunteer
read moreWe have a 10-point plan to ensure that we keep RSPCA services going in the Cambridge area. However, to achieve this we always need more volunteers, so we will be very grateful for any help that you can offer us. Volunteering for the RSPCA gives an enormous sense of satisfaction that you are doing something really worthwhile to help animals in the local area. One of our other most urgent needs is for helpers at our three charity shops in Cambridge and Newmarket. Every RSPCA branch needs a minimum of 7 trustees and a maximum of 14.
News
read moreShops are closed during National Lockdown. Clinic is operating on a pre-booked appointment system - please see clinic page for details. Our Newmarket shop closed permanently Saturday 19th December. We would like to thank all customers, volunteer and staff for their support for the shop. We are able to resume some animal fostering and adoption with strict social distancing arrangements.
10 Point Plan
read moreAs an independent charity, we are always looking for ways to raise more funds to ensure that we can continue to provide vital animal welfare services to the Cambridge region. So we have come up with this 10-point plan to show just how much of a difference you would be making if you could help us out with even just one of the points. If 100 extra people visited our shops each week and all made just one purchase at each visit it would raise 13,000. If 400 people all donated just one carrier bag of saleable items at any of our charity shops, it would raise 4,000.
Clinic
read moreThe history of the RSPCA Cambridge animal clinic dates back to the 1930s. Staff and hospital facilities for the clinic are provided by the University of Cambridge Veterinary School who use it as a teaching centre where students can see real-life cases being treated by qualified vets. View the clinic in action. Without our cheap vet treatment for low income pet owners it is very likely that even more animals would be dumped or handed over to the local dog warden - and very probably put to sleep.
Shops
read moreIf you are interested in volunteering in one of the shops, please refer to our volunteering page. We would particularly like to hear from anyone who would like to reactivate our online sales via eBay and Abe Books. We also have a large section featuring second-hand books, vinyl records and CDs, as well as a variety of videos (DVD and VHS). We need your donations to keep our shop floor well-stocked. Please remember us when you are having a clear-out. If you would like to drop off donations by car, please phone the shop 01223 312 802 for directions to the unloading area behind us on Paradise street and to make sure someone is available to open the back door.
Fostering
read moreFosterers provide a much-needed temporary home for animals while they receive rehabilitation or are waiting to find a suitable permanent home. Without our own rehoming kennels and cattery we have to place the animals in our care either in a boarding kennel/cattery or in foster homes. Where it is possible to place an animal in foster we prefer to do so. Not only does this save on kennelling fees but more importantly, it means the animal can be in a home environment which is usually much better for them and has other benefits.
