Dogs must be vaccinated against canine distemper, canine parvovirus, parainfluenza virus, hepatitis and leptospirosis (DHPPiL) An initial course of vaccination for puppies at eight weeks comprises two injections, two weeks apart. The last of these must be when or after the pup is 10 weeks old. In the adult dog yearly vaccination is necessary to maintain immunity. Kennel cough (Bardatella) vaccination can and should be began at this stage. Kennel cough vaccination must have a booster every year. Bardatella is the same genus of bacteria that causes whooping cough in humans.
