Banquet Hall in Reading, Berkshire Deep down in the heart of the Mediterranean, the people of Sardinia still enjoy the traditional home-cooked food that their grandmothers used to make. Here at Pepe Sale, in the middle of Reading, we strive to offer you several of those delicious, authentic flavours of Sardinia. Restaurant owner, Toni Sale, was brought up on this idyllic island and is delighted to have opened the very 1st Sardinian-cum-Italian restaurant in the country. A finalist in our 1st year of being open, in 2000 we won the Best Italian Food Restaurant in Great Britain awarded by the Pasta, Pizza and Italian Food Association of Great Britain.

About Us
read moreAs in all regions of Italy, pasta is one of our staple dishes, and owner and head chef Toni Sale prepares fresh pasta by hand every morning. Why not try our Sardinian pasta specialities - Malloreddos, Spaghetti Bottarga or Gulungiones, a type of Sardinian Ravioli. Customers who wish to have bread with their meal can order some Pane Carasatu - typical Sardinian thin, crispy bread served simply with extra virgin olive oil and a little fresh rosemary. You can also sample this as a starter - Pane frattau - with fresh tomato sauce and Pecorino cheese, with an optional - but authentic - poached egg.

Events in Pepe Sale Italian Sardinian
read moreMost days Chef/Proprietor Toni Sale prepares and makes a selection of fresh pasta for use in the restaurant, he can often be seen doing this at lunchtime or early evening as his pasta making area is in the front window of the restaurant, by the bar. Obviously the amounts used for each will depend on the amount of pasta you wish to make, but these are the basic ingredients. Toni uses a commercial pasta machine because of the quantity he is making, however all of these pastas can be made with a hand operated pasta machine.

You probably will not have heard of most of them, but don't worry - our staff are here to help you choose the best wine to complement your meal. Wines are competitively priced, starting at 16.90 for a bottle of Red or White Normanno with most bottles falling in the 15 to 25 price bracket, however, we have recently enlarged our wine list to offer an even more eclectic selection of some of the best wines Italy has to offer, including very special wines like the renowned "Super-Tuscan" Sassicaia - widely accepted as one of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
